Mongolia's trade surplus widened to USD 444.6 million in October 2024 from USD 370.1 million in the same month last year, marking the highest level in four months. Exports surged by 21.4% to USD 1,426 million, while imports rose 22% to USD 981 million. For the January-October period, however, the trade surplus narrowed to USD 3,627 million from USD 4,919 million a year earlier. Imports increased by 26.8%, largely driven by higher purchases of mineral products (+17.8%) and machinery, equipment, and electrical appliances (+37.3%). China accounted for the largest share of total imports (40.2%), followed by Russia (24.3%) and Japan (10.4%). Meanwhile, exports were up 5.9%, bolstered by higher sales of mineral products (+7%) and natural stones and precious metals (+21.8%), with China representing 91% of total exports, followed by Switzerland (4.8%) and the US (1.2%).
