Annual inflation in Jordan slowed to 0.8% in October 2024, down from September’s 1.0%. This marked the lowest reading since March 2021, mainly due to declines in food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.6% vs. 0.2% in September), driven by lower prices for fruits and nuts (-6.9%) and vegetables and legumes (-6.3%). Simultaneously, housing prices moderated (2.3% vs 2.5%), while transportation costs dropped at a faster rate (-1.5% vs -0.3%), amid lower fuel and lighting prices (-2.7%). Inflation remained steady for household furnishings and equipment (at 0.1%), with furniture and carpet prices falling by 3.0%, while home maintenance and household appliances rose by 1.3% and 0.4%, respectively. Additionally, inflation for alcohol, tobacco, and cigarettes held at 6.7%, with tobacco and cigarette prices rising by 6.8%. On a monthly basis, the CPI was flat in October, following a 0.3% decrease in the previous month, which marked the first decline in five months.
