Imports to Hong Kong climbed 5.7% year-on-year to $438.1 billion, accelerating from a 4.5% gain in the previous month. This marked the highest reading since August, as purchases increased at a faster pace for electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances, and electrical parts thereof (13.9% vs 7.3% in October), office machines and automatic data processing machines (67.8% vs 36.6%), and photographic apparatus, equipment and supplies, optical goods, watches and clocks (3.4% vs 2%). Additionally, imports growth rebounded sharply for non-ferrous metals (40.2% vs -1.5%), while it decreased less for telecommunications and sound recording and reproducing apparatus and equipment (-6.7% vs -14.5%). Among trading partners, imports grew the most from Taiwan (38.6%), Singapore (31.4%), and South Korea (16.4%). Considering the first eleven months of the year, imports were 6.7% higher compared to the corresponding period last year.

This marked the ninth consecutive month of rising exports activity albeit the weakest in the sequence, as exports growth tumbled for professional, scientific and controlling instruments and apparatus (-8.2% vs 5.1% in October), photographic apparatus, equipment and supplies, optical goods, watches and clocks (-2.3% vs 10.2%), and articles of apparel and clothing accessories (-7.6% vs 9.9%). Moreover, exports eased for electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances, and electrical parts thereof (5.2% vs 10.4%) and power generating machinery and equipment (17.4% vs 25.9%). Among major destinations, shipments went up to Vietnam (42.1%), China (3.9%), and Taiwan (1.2%). In contrast, shipments declined most to India (-28.8%), UAE (-26.4%), and Macao (-20%). For the first eleven months of the year, exports were 9.1% higher compared to the corresponding period last year.
