Exports from Thailand grew 1.1% yoy to USD 25.98 billion in September 2024, slowing sharply from August's 7.0%, below market estimates of a 2.9% rise. It marked the third straight month of growth in exports, but the softest pace in sequence, driven by agricultural, agro-industrial, and industrial products. Sales of agricultural products rose by 0.2%, as did exports of agro-industrials (7.8%), namely canned and processed seafood (15.6%), pet foods (21.5%), and rubber (47.4%) while those of rice rose by 15.2%. Also, exports of industrial products advanced by 2.0%, mainly computers, equipment & parts (25.5%), and machinery and mechanical components (8.7%). Exports expanded to the US (18.1%) and the EU (4.1%) while declining to China (-7.8%), Japan (-5.5%) and the ASEAN countries (-6.7%). For the first nine months of 2024, exports climbed by 3.9% to USD 223.18 billion. Thailand set a target for exports to rise 1%-2% this year. Last year, the country's exports shrank by 1%.
